SHAPE OF A BREAK – orangeis inspired by Japanese culture — particularly the refined silhouettes and quiet strength of traditional vases. The rounded outline and framed composition create a sense of balance and calm, while the detailed pattern introduces subtle narrative and depth.

The design feels both poetic and structured. It translates cultural reference into contemporary textile form, where softness and precision coexist.

Feel & Form

Crafted from 80% wool and 20% viscose, SHAPE OF A BREAK combines durability with subtle luminosity. The wool provides strength, resilience, and a natural warmth, while the viscose introduces a refined sheen that enhances depth and detail within the pattern. The rug is tightly hand-knotted to achieve a dense and substantial construction. It carries a noticeable weight, allowing it to lie firmly and confidently on the floor. The surface feels soft and smooth underfoot, with a discreet play of light across the design.

CRAFT & PRODUCTION

Each HAUS ÜGER rug is constructed through a slow and deliberate hand-knotting process where material, density, and structure are carefully calibrated from the beginning. Every knot is tied individually, allowing the surface to develop a controlled variation in height, rhythm, and tactile depth.

CHARACTER & UNIQUENESS

Variations in knot tension, pile height, and tonal nuance are an inherent part of the hand-knotting process and should be understood as a mark of authenticity rather than deviation. Wool is a living fibre, and its natural behaviour contributes to the visual depth of the surface.

PLACEMENT IN THE INTERIOR

HAUS ÜGER rugs are designed to function as spatial anchors within an interior rather than as background elements. Their scale, weight, and graphic composition allow them to define zones and structure the atmosphere of a room.

Rather than functioning as a flat textile layer, the rug is built as a structured element within the room. The weight of the construction allows it to settle naturally into the floor plane, creating stability and presence.

Wool is selected for its durability, resilience, and ability to hold sculptural definition over time. Through the knotting process itself, the surface develops a subtle movement that cannot be replicated through mechanical production.

The result is a rug defined not only by its pattern, but by its physical structure — dense, grounded, and materially expressive.

No two rugs will ever be completely identical. Each carries small shifts in rhythm, proportion, and texture that emerge through the making itself.

These differences are not imperfections but the qualities that distinguish a hand-crafted object from industrial repetition.

Over time, the rug settles into the architecture of the space, developing a presence that feels integrated rather than applied.

Placed in a living area, bedroom, entrance, or open architectural space, the rug introduces orientation, contrast, and a sense of intention to the floor surface.

Often a single rug with a strong composition creates more clarity than several competing elements. It becomes part of how the room is read and experienced.

When positioned thoughtfully, the rug signals an interior that has been composed rather than decorated.

“True refinement lives in the balance between strength and subtle shine.”

Crafted by Hand

Each rug is entirely hand-knotted by skilled artisans. No machines are involved — every knot is tied by hand in a slow, deliberate process that demands precision and patience. The detailed line work and structured framing require careful control to maintain clarity and balance. This is craftsmanship built on time, intention, and expertise — resulting in a rug designed to endure both physically and aesthetically for decades.

Room Presence

SHAPE OF A BREAK works beautifully in bedrooms, living rooms, and refined entrance spaces. Its rounded silhouette softens architectural lines and creates a composed focal point within the room. The subtle sheen from the viscose enhances light in calmer interiors, while the defined form ensures presence without excess. It introduces cultural depth and quiet distinction to the space.

In the living room, the rug becomes the element that brings everything together. Placed beneath the sofa or within the seating area, it anchors the space and adds warmth, depth, and presence.

A rug like this can shift the atmosphere of the room — from neutral to personal. It creates a quiet focal point that gives the space character without taking it over.

“A living room is shaped not only by furniture, but by the surfaces that give it direction.”

In the bedroom, the rug adds warmth and quiet structure to a space shaped around rest. Placed beside or partly under the bed, it softens the transition between furniture and floor and brings a more grounded atmosphere to the room.

Even a single rug can shift how the bedroom feels — from simple to personal. It creates a calm foundation that supports the sense of retreat the space is meant to hold.

“A bedroom should feel like a place you return to — not just a room you sleep in.”

In an entry or guest room, the rug sets the tone from the moment you arrive. Placed in the entrance or beside a bed or bench, it adds warmth and presence to spaces that are often left neutral.

Even a single rug can shape the first impression of a home. It introduces character in a quiet way and signals that the space has been considered with care.

“The first impression of a home is often created by its smallest decisions.”

HAUS ÜGER is a Danish design brand driven by a fascination with form, texture, and the beauty of imperfection. Founded on the belief that interiors should provoke emotion, our work blurs the line between art and function. Every creation carries a sculptural presence — bold, textural, and uncompromising — expressing a refined yet untamed spirit that challenges conventional Scandinavian minimalism.

We value craftsmanship as much as concept. Behind every piece lies a commitment to time, technique, and authenticity. By collaborating with skilled artisans and embracing slow production, we ensure that each object holds meaning and longevity. Sustainability is not an aesthetic for us; it is a way of working — an insistence that true luxury must endure.
