PRODUCT CARE

Natural fibres such as wool and cotton are durable, breathable, and designed to age beautifully. With proper care, these materials maintain their structure, colour, and softness for many years.

Because our rugs and cushions are made from natural textiles and crafted by hand, they require thoughtful care. Understanding how these fibres respond to use, spills, and cleaning will help preserve their character and longevity.

EVERYDAY CARE

Regular maintenance prevents dirt from settling deep into the fibres and keeps the textile surface looking fresh.

Vacuum regularly using a suction head without a rotating brush. Aggressive beater bars can damage the pile structure of wool rugs and should be avoided. For cushions, use a low-suction upholstery attachment to remove dust and particles from the surface.

New wool products may shed loose fibres during the first period of use. This is a natural characteristic of wool and will gradually decrease with regular vacuuming. For rugs placed in high-traffic areas, occasional rotation helps distribute wear more evenly and prevents uneven fading.

SPILLS AND STAINS

If liquid is spilled, the most important factor is speed and gentle handling.

Immediately blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth or paper towel. Do not rub the surface, as this can push liquid deeper into the fibres and damage the pile structure.

Work from the outer edge of the spill toward the centre while blotting. Continue until no more liquid transfers to the cloth.

WINE, COFFEE, JUICE AND OTHER LIQUIDS

Liquids containing pigments or tannins may stain natural fibres if left untreated.

  1. Blot the spill immediately.
  2. Apply a small amount of cold water to dilute the stain.
  3. Blot again with a clean cloth.
  4. If necessary, use a very mild wool-safe detergent diluted in water.
  5. Remove remaining moisture with dry towels and allow the area to air dry.

Hot water should be avoided, as it may cause wool fibres to shrink or set certain stains. If the stain persists after initial treatment, professional cleaning is recommended.

FOOD AND STICKY SUBSTANCES

For thicker spills such as jam, chocolate, or food residue:

  1. Carefully remove solids using a spoon or dull edge.
  2. Avoid pressing the material into the fibres.
  3. Lightly dampen the area with cold water.
  4. Blot repeatedly until the residue lifts.

A mild detergent solution suitable for wool may be used if necessary.

PET ACCIDENTS

If pets leave urine, vomit, or other organic stains on the textile, quick action is important.

  1. Remove any solids carefully.
  2. Blot the affected area to absorb as much liquid as possible.
  3. Apply a small amount of water and blot again.
  4. Use a mild wool-safe cleaning solution if needed.

Enzyme-based cleaners may help reduce odours caused by organic stains. For deep saturation or persistent odours, professional cleaning services are recommended.

PROFESSIONAL CLEANING

While small stains can often be treated at home, deeper cleaning should be performed by textile specialists experienced with wool rugs and upholstery.

Professional cleaning may be appropriate when:

  • Stains penetrate deeply into the fibres
  • Large areas are affected
  • Odours remain after treatment
  • Delicate fibre blends are involved

Depending on usage, many specialists recommend professional cleaning of wool rugs every one to three years.

CLEANING PRODUCTS

Always test any cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to a visible surface.

Use only mild detergents designed for wool or upholstery fabrics. Strong chemicals, bleach, or aggressive stain removers may damage natural fibres and affect colour stability.

DRYING

After cleaning, remove as much moisture as possible with dry towels and allow the textile to air dry naturally.
Avoid direct heat sources such as radiators or hair dryers, as excessive heat may affect the structure of natural fibres.
Proper airflow helps prevent moisture from becoming trapped in the backing or filling.

CARE FOR CUSHIONS

For wool cushions:

  • Vacuum gently using an upholstery attachment
  • Rotate cushions occasionally to maintain their shape
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to strong sunlight to prevent fading

If the cushion cover is removable, always follow the instructions on the care label.

Important Notice
Textiles made from natural fibres may react differently depending on environmental conditions, the type of stain, and the cleaning method used.

The recommendations above are intended as general guidance based on established textile-care practices. When in doubt, professional cleaning specialists should be consulted.
